As a newcomer to the world of wigs and hair toppers, it can be difficult to know where to begin in your search for the perfect piece. To assist you in making an informed decision, consider the following factors when choosing a wig or hair topper.
How do I know if I need a wig or a hair topper?
Topper is a piece of fabric with hair that knotted into it. Toppers are clipped into your own hair, designed to blend in.
Toppers come in different sizes and shapes depending on the area you want to cover.
It designed for people who have bald patches, hair thinning, and or receding hairline and wish to add more volume or cover patches.
Toppers are half the weight of a wig, so it suits people who suffer from heat, however they are not as secure as wigs on your head.
The choice between a wig or a topper depends on the individual’s specific hair needs and personal preferences. If you want to add volume and cover patches, a hair topper may be the best option. If you want a complete change or have extensive hair loss, a wig may be the better option. Consult with a hair professional or stylist to determine the best choice for your specific needs.
Hair Type: Synthetic or Human Hair
Synthetic wigs are constructed from fibers, meaning they are not made of real hair. This can result in a drier, coarser texture that typically lasts up to six months. These wigs are an economical option for short-term use.
Human hair wigs come in a range of different qualities, which determine the overall quality and longevity of the piece. Factors such as your budget, skin complexion, desired hair texture, and style preference will help determine which quality is best for you. R&Z wigs offer four different quality options: Russian and Slavic hair, European hair, Brazilian and Mongolian hair, and Remy hair.
Cap Construction
The cap construction of a wig or hair topper is another important factor to consider. Options include:
Skin Top: Also known as a silk top, this cap replicates a human scalp and has knots hidden within the silk. It is thicker and provides more volume on top, making it a good choice for those seeking added volume.
Lace Front: Similar to the skin top, this cap also has a lace front for a softer, more natural-looking hairline. Our wigs feature Swiss lace for a more natural appearance.
Lace Top: Made of high-quality Swiss lace, this cap is lightweight and realistic-looking. The knots are visible, but can be concealed with a concealer or by bleaching the knots (although this will affect the longevity of the wig).
Back of the Cap: Most of our wigs feature wefts at the back for a tighter fit and long-lasting wear. A custom-made hand-tied option is also available, but takes 4-6 months to produce and is not as durable as the wefted wig.
Ultimately, the best cap option for you will depend on your individual preferences. We recommend trying different caps and sizes to determine which works best for you.
